Someone was attempting to claim their land. Artiel's eyes narrowed just a fraction, the blank look on his face barely changing with emotion. Another creature ready to sing the praises of themselves. No, this would not do at all - there was no room here for another making a huge shrine to pride and greed, only to turn away when their power was absolute. Seigen was better than any idea such an animal brought to the marsh.

Artiel was an alpha only by Niero's order, but Niero was too important to risk in a fight with any wolf. And so the unquestioning merle mutt would do what needed to be done to keep their new territory safe.

Neat white paws carried Artiel to a small thicket, trees and grasses strangling the landscape. It was here Artiel would wait for his opponent, grey eyes staring out of the cover. He was not stupid - on open ground a larger wolf would simply dominate him. But here, with trees to duck around and unsteady footing to keep them both moving...well, perhaps the brute's own size would be his downfall.

The small canine settled in the shade of one of the scragglier trees, old man's beard hanging down to brush against his coat. Despite his silence he would be easy to find, pale coat all too easy to spot between the darks of moss and mud.

Someone was trying to take the land he and his family was going to call home. Taramo was not going to tolerate that. He took a very deep breath and stepped into the open. With every step, thoughts passed through his head. His mate, his friends, his unborn pups. If he died they would be without a father.  He didn't want that, he was not going to abandon them like his father did. He wasn't going to die, and leave them with out getting to see their faces. Before the he could hear them utter the word 'father' to him. He was not going to. He pushed those thoughts to the very back of his mind and examined his surroundings, river, the mud, trees, rocks anything he could use in this fight. No doubt his opponent was watching him at that moment. He was taking a risk just standing out in the open but that didn't matter to him. He was taller and much heavier than his opponent to that gave him and edge. But he needed something more than that. What he had been taught, by Toleck, and Damage. They had taught him a lot but not everything they knew.

But he was ready for this.

Taramo looked up at the night sky with a cloudy overcast, and the clap of thunder in the distance, a storm was approaching. If the rain came, it would provide the perfect atmosphere for their fight. Taramo's paw pads splashed in the mud he stomped his feet, as if he was calling his opponent. Daring him to come out. Taramo's heart beat with fear and anticipation. Not fear of death, but fear of letting his friends and family down. In that situation he would take death over, coming home with honor lost. Immortality was Taramo's for the taking, it was all up to him. The fur on his back shot strait up in the air, and his ears went flat against his head. As he waited for his attacker.

"Come out, come out where ever you are."
"If there is one thing I know... family is all you have...
and that, is the one thing worth fighting and dying for."

Artiel tracked his opponent's foot falls with a concentration that belied his relaxed posture. Splash splash splash, as though the other wolf was taking no care where his paws fell at all - but perhaps it was as much a challenge as the growled rhyme. It was obvious that the brute didn't want to enter his carefully chosen little labyrinth. A smart move for the other, but it also left Taramo without the knowledge of where Artiel was lurking.

Well, there would be no fight if neither moved at all. Artiel's advantage could only be used once before it was used up forever. Stealth was something easily cast aside in the wake of pure power. The river was an interesting choice - best to stay away from it unless he could somehow force Taramo's back against it. Speed was probably the only thing he could really best the big wolf in - the blackblood clearly had muscle mass and height on his side.

For the moment at least.

Artiel didn't waste time or breath on speaking to his enemy, charging straight out of the brush on Taramo's left side. He immediately targeted the other wolf's left hock with his teeth, bowing low while dashing toward Taramo's back leg. If he caught hold he would attempt to worry away at the lightly muscled area, hoping to injure the leg enough to seriously slow down his enemy.

If the attack didn't connect he'd attempt to follow Taramo's retreat, keeping his head close to the darker animal's tail. His shorter length may be able to keep anything important away from those powerful jaws while keeping his original target close by. If this was the case he would attempt to set his teeth into the flesh of either thigh, hoping to break through the fur protecting muscle and bone.

If Artiel was unable to keep up with Taramo's retreat, he'd switch tactics. Pushing back hard with his right foreleg he'd attempt to hit Taramo side on, his upper body faced toward Taramo's. There he hoped to grab hold of the larger wolf's cheek or higher neck region. There he would grab hold and hope to do some damage before Taramo could dislodge him.

Taramo waited for the attack. He provoked Artiel, hopping that the attack you would come soon after. He got his wish when he cam out for his left flank at full speed. He should have know that an opponent this small, you go to cripple him really fast. Go for the legs. Ha little ankle snappers. He pivoted to the left, not retreating but moving with Artiel as he dashed at him. At the same time Taramo attempted to bite down on the scruff of his neck just before he reached him. If it hit, he would bite down, not trying not seriously injure him just to hurt him. Then he would attempt to throw him to the ground no more than a foot away then try to put his paw on his throat. Not applying much pressure to choke or kill. Just enough to make him think about his next move. Weather he wanted to tempt death or stay alive and leave while he could. The chances were that he wasn't going to give up that easy. He was going to find a way to dodge his prior attacks.

Taramo knew that this wolf was going to be crafty and fast. He had to think logically. Taramo was really tall, and much heavier than this one. He had speed on him, any time he dodged could lead to a counter and an attack his legs. That would be his downfall if he let him take out his legs. But if he went under him all he had to do was plop down with all of his weight, and end the fight fast. Taramo didn't want to spill blood today but he would if he had to. Both of these wolves had a cause; This piece of land. They wanted it, they needed it. The mud of the marsh stained his fur. His paws were the color of the mud now.

To Taramo it was rude not to talk to your opponent. You should talk to you opponent. Just because you were fighting doesn't mean that you cant be acquaintances, or in the future friends. They were fighting for this land. It was nothing personal. They were fighting for something they wanted. But at the sane time, Taramo didn't want to return home to the shame of defeat, and a dent in his honor. The honor that he tried so hard to gain. His friends looked up to him. But to be a leader he had to sacrifice something."We'll all find our sacrifice tomorrow, Our journey on towards a brighter day." Taramo had to live those words even as he fought. Sacrifice was what every leader needed.

Since Taramo edited his post 5 hours after of the original post time, without a Marshland Organizer's permission, I declare Seigen the winner of Unclaimed Land Round 1. Be ready for your next battle against Nod. Congradulations!
