The secret life of a Workaholic. (Open!)
« on: July 20, 2017, 03:34:41 AM »
Well.... Damn. Was she doomed to be forever alone? To never have a family of her own, children, a mate who didn't vanish? Maybe, maybe not, only time would tell it would seem. The Cutlass rose to her paws and walked from the massive den at the back of the Garden, stretching and looking about nodding to herself. There was work to do. There was always work to do and for the past many moons she'd been in a sense of auto-pilot, not really saying much, acting out all the basic requirements to survive and aid when others came to her. She'd not hosted a check in some time, she would need to do that but first.... She had to check on the Garden, then the huts she'd been keeping clean and making beds of sorts. There was a reason she didn't go off to War, she was needed here, someone had to look after the Garden and prepare for the horrors that were sure to return.

Sapphire eyes drifted toward the sky, the morning light still casting vibrant hues, that warm glow something she used to so dearly love but now? Why? She had opened her heart up only to have it torn to pieces, not again. Cider huffed softly, going about her work and soon lost all sense of time as it was nearly mid-day when she finally found herself thirsty, hungry, needing to stretch and go for a walk. She approached the edge of the Garden, smiling as she paused to admire the little flower garden made by the pups, my... How big they must be getting by this point. Shaking her head, she would move onward quietly.

The Cutlass moved at a casual pace, there was no real bounce in her stride as there had been, there was no danger of a mental breakdown. Yes, she was feeling pretty damn depressed but, she was feeling more.... Cold than anything else. Cider walked along the river that fed life to the Garden, she really needed to actually give her prized paradise a name. Hm... Eden? Tch,  cliche but, oddly fitting. She'd wander along, smiling to herself as the river widened and soon expanded into the massive lake. "It has been a while." She would muse to herself, chuckling as she walked to the edge of the water, lowering her head and drinking greedily.

The tri-colored wolf would look around with a small smile before backing away from the water, racing forward and leaping. She landed with a loud splash and even went under, surfacing she would laugh, a smile tugging at her lips. It had been too long since she honestly felt so light and happy. She would swim around for a bit, eventually moving to dry land only to shake herself free of excess water and flop down to sunbathe. Alright, so maybe she needed to start making time to actually enjoy little things again, maybe that would help mend the broken pieces. Without realizing it, she was humming a faint little melody, no words, just a happy little tune as she lay there, eyes closed and fur baking and drying in the warmth of the sun.
Look who's digging their own grave
That is what they all say
You'll drink yourself to death

Look who makes their own bed
Lies right down within it
And what will you have left?

Out on the front doorstep
Drinking from a paper cup
You won't remember this

Living beyond your years
Acting out all their fears
You feel it in your chest

Your hands protect the flames
From the wild winds around you.

She had to be the only creature in Tortuga that preferred the lake over the ocean.

Which made sense to Veruah, who until he had reached the land of pirates, had never even seen the ocean before. It was a dangerous place, the sea. Full of creatures that wanted little more than a bite of flesh and to chew their bones. Not to mention the undertow, which could sweep a wolf out to sea, never to return... or at least not alive. It had been interesting for the half hellion to see the Tortugans, even as young pups, diving into the depths of the ocean to retrieve objects. They understood the dangers of the sea, and still chose to live with it, thrive in it even. Not Veruah tho. He was happy to party on the beach. Maybe someday he'd learn to get over that fear but that day wasn't today.

Today he had snuck off to hang out in the forest, maybe chew a few mushrooms and just enjoy the trip. But something happened before he could do that. He spotted someone moving toward the lake from a nearby trail. Veruah's pale blue eye followed the moving brush until Cider appeared. He pulled his forepaws toward his chest in a hoarding motion, knocking a few mushrooms off of the log where he was perched and onto the forest floor below.

He remained still as she drank, thinking she would soon go, but when she began to play he stood on the log, ignoring the mushrooms and tilting his head to the side in curiosity. What was she doing? He'd never seen her play before. A little chuckle escaped him as she emerged and laid down in the sun to dry her pelt. gracefully the half hellion hopped down from the log and approached her.

"'Ello Lady Cutlass." he said as he neared. "Having a good swim?"

She shifted, rolling to lie on her back, a happy sigh escaping her. This felt so good, so wonderful. She felt lighter than normal and just.... Heh.... Maybe she could convince Veruah to come out of his shell some and play a bit some day..... If he wasn't too busy eating shrooms. Her right ear would have twitched at the sound of paws had she not been on her back. Huh.... Wonder who found her?

"'Ello Lady Cutlass."

Speak of the effing devil and he shall appear... Cider remained on her back, probably looking like a silly half soggy fluffy pillow, least that nice soft belly fur did.... Hehe. Her sapphire gaze fluttered open and her lips pulled back in a grin, well this was probably quite the amusing way for him to see her. Heh! The big bad Cutlass laying on her back like a puppy after having a swim.

"Having a good swim?"

"Mmmhmmmm..."

Came her sigh of a reply, her tail wagging a bit against the ground. "What brings you out this way Veruah? Looking for things to make a brew?" She would question, still letting her belly catch the warm rays of the sun. Yup, this was a totally different side that Veruah was seeing and well it was probably odd to him, the playful side but, oh well... He'd get used to it eventually.... Maybe. If Veruah got close enough, Cider would reach out to prod at his chest, or at least try to. "You should come swimming with me!" She half exclaimed in a cheerful tone, that tail wagging all the more. "There are no monsters in the lake, promise." She'd add with a wink, finally rolling over, looking up at him with a huge grin, tail going faster now.

"It'll be fun!"
