Greener Pastures [Ralof]

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

It had been days since the return of the group from their latest adventure, that adventure being attempting to save a whole lot of others, and somewhat succeeding.  They had lost one of their own on the trip however, Sollux, the hellion.  Echo didn't know the guy personally, but Aela and Serrate had both taken his comrades death the hardest.  He didn't want to dwell on that episode of time anymore, so he was determined to go out and explore their new, green place of living.

He'd left early in the morning, just before the sun came up, traveling up nearly creek.  This particular creek was different then the others though, it seemed to be made up entirely of brown, mud water, nasty looking, but it didn't smell bad.  However, it did look like a creek made of crap, so Echo had deemed to name it crap creek.  To himself of course, he wouldn't disclose the name to anyone, at least not yet.  He preferred to have his own private jokes to keep himself entertained.

He followed crap creek up to where it branched off from a large river, and following that up he'd made it to the faire pools by noon.  Enjoying a brisk drink from these small, aptly named pools, he now faced the wall of mountain peaks that almost encircled Gemini, and looked out onto the ocean.  Not seeing an ocean before, Echo wondered if maybe they ended, so giving a shrug he began a (later deemed horrible afterthought) treacherous climb to the top of one of these peaks (notably the smallest of the bunch).  It took the camouflaged merle wolf quite a bit of time, and a few choice words to reach the peak.  When he did though, he was glad he'd made the trip.  There was an oddly shaped carve taken from the top of the mountain, creating a bit of a sanctuary overlooking the ocean, the fair pools, the pits and the rest of Gemini.

Unfortunately, he could also see the approaching storm rolling in over the vast (seemingly unending) blue sea.  "You've got to be crapting me, I just got up here.."  Frowning, he'd make a mental note to come up here again, maybe tell Serrate about this place so she and Hawthorne could have some time away form their kids.  Sighing, he'd turn back to head down the same path he'd climbed up not 2 minutes before.

Echo found to easier to descend from the mountain then it was to climb, and when he reached the bottom he was able to see the clouds just barely rolling in over the peaks.  Turning his head he saw the shape of a familiar, yet not personally familiar acquaintance.  It was hard to mistake the large uni-beast, as he was the only one of his kind in the pack.  Ralof had been helpful in the talks with Inaria, and so Echo thought he should get to know this guy better.  I mean really, how many times do you meet a god damn unicorn? Never.

Echo padded over to the large dude, flicking his head back to the mountains and rumbling storm clouds as he approached.  "If you're not looking for a shocking experience in the near future, I'd keep that lightning rod on your dome down for a bit bro."

God, you're so effing punny Echo.

Mountains weren't particularly designed for horses. He was a flat racer, a charger of the plains. But the view from atop the creek was too much to pass up; he had traversed the hills a few times now, to stand on the highest peaks he could reach and watch the sea with the wind in his hair. The breeze and stormy skies reminded him of his birthland, and he felt so wonderfully at home in the new territory.

The ground was particularly saturated today, and the horse's legs were caked up to his hocks in mud. He didn't particularly mind; he'd rub it all off later. He was pacing calmly through the lower halves of the mountains, watching the clouds slowly roll in over the horizon, darkening the sky with their presence and cooling the air immediately. The breeze was heavenly, ruffling his mane and tail and cooling his mind and temper. His reverie was, however, interrupted by a dark figure against the off-green of the hills, sliding ungracefully down and, once they were within closer proximity, Ralof recognised the figure as Echo.

Immediately, he gave the wolf a nod. He had respect for the male; he had lead their little expedition well, and Ralof had been charmed to work below his command. However, when the male spoke to him, Ralof was mildly amused by the pun that was given; he was no stranger to such humour, and to hear it coming from wolve was a little bizarre to him. He blew out of his nose a snort of laughter, and paced over, lowering his head a little to humour the canine.

"What're you doing up here, Echo? Mulling things over?"

There had been much for them to think about in the new territory, and he wondered if Echo's mind had been as full as his own. He moved to stand Echo, staring up at the darkening sky with him and wondering, vaguely, how long it would be before the heavens opened in full force. The first drizzles were already starting to come down.

there's no salvation for me now
no space among the clouds
and i feel i'm heading down
but that's alright

Echo couldn't help but cock a half smile as the hell horse creature paced over to him.  He had been a great help in their adventure that Serrate had sent them out on, meeting up with those Inarians on the border.  He had to admit, even as a prey animal, he was glad they had Ralof on their side.  He met Ralof's dip of the head with one in return of his own.

"What're you doing up here, Echo? Mulling things over?"

Echo snorted out his nose, shaking his head, "Ya, right, "mulling things over".."  He said short-handedly.  There weren't enough hours in a day or days in a year to mull over all the crap he had spinning around in his head.  Saboro, Inaria, a brand new land to get used to- it was enough to make your head spin.  "I'm still trying to figure out the lay of the land, this one's a tad bit larger than the speck of land in the Redlands."  He said, sitting on his haunches now, lifting a leg to get to an itch behind his ear.  "What about you Ralof, out here all by your lonesome?  Trying to find the best grazing spot, or just trying to get some alone time away from all Serrates minions?"  Because God damn, that woman had an arsenal and a half of children at her beckon call.

A flash of lightning and roar of thunder overhead opened up the sky, and the slight drizzle turned into more of a downpour, instantly soaking the wolf and equine duo.  "Maybe we should go 'mull things over' somewhere a little dryer eh?"  Echo yelled over the pouring rain,  "Unless, you know, you enjoy being cold and miserable, because wolfGod knows I effing don't."
