Runes

Spies and assassins, the secret keepers and fugitive hunters of Asgard are the Runes. Six in total, all chosen from royal children, or hand picked as cubs to join this elite rank. They must be trusted and loyal, for they are dangerous. The core of the pride know of their existence, but only by their code name and the mask they bear. If one is seen in mask and cloak, slinking about in the dead of night, most would be wise to avoid them, for figuring out their identities could have dire consequences....for both parties.

Rune Council

In the cave below Yggdrasil, where the Astridr and Hoyradet hold their meetings, a second council holds sessions in the black of night. The Runes. A sort of secret council, their identities known only to the Astridr and Hoyradet, they operate in darkness, hiding their true identities from the main pride.

There are six Runes all together and a majority vote must be made on certain occasions. The Hel does not cast an initial vote, but allows the other five a vote and is responsible for casting a vote only in times of a tie breaker.

The Runes could vote on anything from what fugitives they hunt, to when to expose a traitor, to what missions take the most importance.

Rune Mark

The Runes have a true mark, but it is only worn with their masks and cloaks. The mark of the Rune is a simple bar, with a slanted arm on either side, like a cross with the arms bent up. It is a simple rune, a symbol of protection. The Hel's mark is the same, with a colored stone in the center of the broken arms.

Rank Expectations

The Runes are the secret keepers of Asgard. They must be willing to forfeit information they hear, even if it will convict a loved one of treason. Their identities must remain a secret from the common members of the pride and so they must never speak of it to anyone outside of the Rune, Astridr, and Hoyradet.

Runes are responsible for going into the Neutrals and asking around for information on fugitives, no matter if they are wanted by Asgard or any other pack/pride. If the fugitive wanted by another pack/pride is captured and returned to Asgard, the pack/pride might pay to have the fugitive brought back to their lands for punishment. In that case, Asgard will happily oblige.

When leaving on a mission, it is not required that a Rune be accompanied by another Asgardian, but they must request permission from a superior, either IC or OOC. When leaving on leisure, they must be accompanies by another Rune as well as gain permission.

Haraldr

The claws of the pride, the Haraldr, are strong and determined soldiers. They need to be brave and noble, willing to put their life on the line for the protection of their pride.

Royal and Border Guards

In times of war the Haraldr might be split into two groups. The Royal guard, led by the Frior, and the Border guard, led by the Haraldr Berserkr.

The Royal guard ensures the safety of the royals and nobles. The Astridr and Hoyradet might still choose to fight with the Border guard, but the Royal guard is still responsible for the protection of their royal and noble mates and cubs.

The Border guard ensures the safety of civilians and has the responsibility of eradicating any intruders.

Haraldr Mark

The Haraldr mark is a black pawprint with three red slashes diagonally through the middle. The Berserkr mark is the same, with a colored stone inlaid in the middle of the paw.

Rank Expectations

Haraldr are meant to be strong, brave, disciplined soldiers. The Berserkr must know his Drengr well enough to say that they would die for the pride and that their training is taken seriously as the lives of every Asgardian might depend on them.

The Haraldr are key candidates to be asked as escorts for other ranks leaving the borders. The Eira might need them as body guards when searching the Neutrals for herbs. The Njordur might need help with the raiding of a human villiage for crafting supplies and the Glohdker might  require assistance beinging back sticks and limbs for making torches.

Leaving for leisure requires permission IC or OOC from a superior, as well as the accompaniment in the form of another ranked Asgardian.

Leaving for a mission will most likely be with the guidance of the Berserkr and in a group of Haraldr.

Var

The Heralds are the spies and messengers of _____. They are good at keeping a secret and loyal to the pride. They understand the value of a well timed word and know that secrets run the world.

Members of this rank must be trustworthy and prepared for capture. Torture is a possibility if captured by an enemy and the members of the Herald must understand how to keep their secrets under all sorts of pressure and trauma.

Birds who want to join the Herald rank can be any species, large or small. Any bird is seen as useful for a Herald.

Herald Stone

The Herald stone is a small green opal, accompanied by a small _____ stone, to identify them as being part of the _____ Clan. They may choose not to wear this if it hinders their flight, but instead can choose to hang it from their nests.

Rank Expectations

Heralds are expected to carry out missions in a timely manner. The messages they take must remain secret. Harboring information could get you tried for treason. The Herald can go out to recruit members for _____. The _____ don't enslave unless it's a prisoner of war, so instead the Herald can do recruitment in the Neutrals.

Herald

Haraldr Mark

The Eira mark is a swirled staff and wings. The Eir mark is the same, with a colored stone set at the top.

Rank Expectations

Eira have many responsibilities in the rank. The Eir is the rank lead. They live in a private cave in the Eira area of the pride and tend to the mass stores. They are in charge of the garden and making sure the plants are healthy and the most useful parts are harvested in a way that keeps the stocks high, while minimizing trauma to the plant. Over harvesting can be a problem and some plants must be raised from seeds because the roots are what is needed.

The Valkyries are expected to know all about the healing arts, but they have a choice. They can specialize in child care, or apothecary(poisons). That's not to say that a member can't do both, but one must be careful about letting the cubs get a hold of their poisons.

Lita

Eyes open and a good judge of character, the Lita are the scouts of Asgard. They roam the White Plains and invite guests, making sure they have the proper Var escort, intercept trespassers, and accepting potential members.

Welcomed Species

Asgard is a land for big cats, be they lions, tigers, sabers, leopards, etc. But any manner of predator is welcome. Wolves, foxes, dogs, coyotes, hellhounds, and hyenas are welcome. Be a good judge of character. We are for cats so if another species comes for acceptance, be sure there is something special about them. Unless a fighter is exceptional, we have huge felines that are also great fighters. Non- felines have a better chance if they are capable of learning healing/apothecary arts, and other specialized jobs.

Lita Mark

The mark of the Lita is a white plain with a flying bird. The mark of the Aetla is the same, with a colored stone sun in the under the bird and above the plain.

Rank Expectations

The Aetla must be sure to know all about Asgard and what potential members can play in the pride. They must be a good judge of character, able and trust worthy. Judging outsiders is very important. One misstep and a lazy or possibly unstable member might be accepted to dire consequences. The Aetla must also be sure all of their Taka are well trained and know what to look for in an Asgardian potential.

Leaving the lands on leisure, must be approved IC or OOC by a superior and all Lita must be accompanied by another ranked member. They won;t generally have a reason to leave the lands on a mission but if numbers are low the Aetla might have a recruitment party move into the Neutrals to speak with potentials. Just remember that Asgard does not enslave. We want members who are loyal from choice, not force. So if a potential declines, simply move along to the next.

Glodhker

Firekeepers of Asgard are wielders of a dangerous natural element. If you're afraid of getting burned, this rank isn't for you. The Glodhker pick up this skill from the Torches of Tortuga and proudly display their skills.

Fires

The fires are maintained by the Brenna. Most of Asgard's tar pits lie to the south, but a few small ones occupy the area around the Brenna's den. This is a choice spot for the Brenna to teach the Hyrr how to handle the fires. Hyrr should never be permitted to handle the fire until they are given approval by the Brenna and shouldn't be just running around with torches. Much of Asgard is Savanna and the grasses are highly susceptible to wild fires so let's not help it along.

Glodhker Mark

Glodhker mark is comprised of two crossed flaming torches. The Brenna's mark is the same, with an arch over the top with a colored stone.

Rank Expectations

Brenna are required to keep their stocks of tar high. On the side of their home cave, there is a smaller cave where tar can be stored in pots stollen from human villiages. It's up to the Brenna to be sure there are enough pots and that the pots themselves are full. If more tar is needed, they need to rally their Hyrr and travel south to collect more from the tar pits. If there aren't enough limbs for torches, the Brenna need to take their Hyrr to the Neutrals and collect more. If pots and cloth are needed, the Brenna need to let the Njordur know so they can go on a raid. Work together to keep stocks up.

All Glodhker need to know fire safety. They must know how flammable certain grasses are and what times of the year are most dangerous. They also need to know the best way to contain and put out fires, wild or intentional. Control burns are good for the Savanna and aid in keeping the soil hospitable so the Glodhker need to know how to conduct a control burn during the wet season.

Njordur

Merchants and crafters, these Asgardian's are good with their paws. Specializing in crafts, they are the ones you go to if you need a hide tanned, a trinket carved, or a torch made. They can do all that and more and proudly carry their wares to allied packs and prides to sell. This is a trade picked up from Tortuga.

Crafting and Tattoos

Njordur will gladly do for you what you want, for a price that is. Give them something, do them a favor, make a trade. If they like you, they might just give it to you anyway. Certain trinkets are given as rewards for activity and some can be commissioned from a Njordur.

Some ranks require items from the Njordur and they are supposed to keep these items on hand. Torches, cloth, and pots for the Glodhker. Bowls, twine, and smooth stones for the Eira.

Rank Marks are made in advance for those returning from the Rites of Passage. The Njordur keep these premade and on hand for the Rites. They are flat oval pieces of wood, painted and adorned according to rank.

Tattoos are not uncommon but are generally reserved for achievements. For example, the tattoo of the Valor is given to any that win the mating competition. The Konungr will usually send a member to the Njordur for a particular tattoo.

Njordur Mark

The Njordur mark is a feather and fang in a bowl. The Skapari's mark is the same, with an added stone in the bowl with the fang and feather.

Rank Expectations

All Njordur can craft but the Skapari are the best. They are excellent and skilled craftsman, as well as keeping up the stocks for anything needed in Asgard. When supply is low, the Skapari need to their their Skapa on a raid to a man village to retrieve the needed items. They might even take some Haraldr as guards.

When leaving on leisure, please be sure to get permission from a superior through IC or OOC means and remember that the Njordur must be accompanies by another ranked member of Asgard.

For missions, it might be rare for a Njordur to go without all of the Njordur going since most missions require raiding a village, or traveling to an allied pack/pride to sell wares.

Einar

Rankless members of Asgard.

Ungr and Folki

Ungr and Folki are unranked members of Asgard. But they are both very different.

The Ungr are cubs born in Asgard. They may go on their first Rites of Passage at the age of 6 months but must go before they are two years old. The longer a cub waits, the more at the pride is to look at them as being lazy.

The Folki are accepted or recruited members of Asgard. They can be any age, any species, and have not completed a Rites of Passage.

Rites of Passage

All unranked members, Ungr or Folki, must go through a Rites of Passage. This is where they travel to Tortuga and trade items from Asgard in exchange for learning a skill. The Ungr must go on their first Rites before they are two years old, whereas the Folki can go at any age, but must attend the first Rites that is scheduled after their acceptance.

The Rites are very important to Asgard. Folki and Ungr alike are expected to pass and return home to announce their new rank. If their Rites were a failure, do to IC reasons or unexcused OOC inactivity, they must attempt a Rites again. Each member gets two chances to complete a Rites and if both times result in failure, they must run the gauntlet and live in banishment for five years. They may return after that time if they so choose.

For more information on the Rites, here is everything you'll need to know from preparation, to what items are approved to trade for training in Tortuga.

Rank Expectations

The Ungr and Folki are both required to think about what rank they want to join and acquire the needed items to trade with the Tortugans for knowledge of that rank. They must attend and pass a Rites before entering another rank and making themselves useful to the pride.

These members are not allowed to leave the pride unless invited by an Astridr or Hoyradet. No exceptions.
