Frozen Mud ((Minahh, maybe Eru))
« on: January 06, 2015, 12:33:27 PM »
((Wait till Minahh posts then maybe come in when you feel like its a good spot? This isn't all that happy yet, sorry, but we'll get there eventually!))

failed... again...
The chill could not reach beyond the mud brown fur. Though the wind picked up the hawk feather and blue bird feather tied with a green bead to a leather cord around his neck. The feathers were ragged, old, kind of splintery, half caked in mud, faded, from a nearly forgotten time. The flurries of snow circled around the male that smelled strongly of herbs. His winter coat made him look like an oldster, white frosted around his muzzle and paw pads... but it wasn't so far now that the markings might be permanent.

Hakan lifted his heterochromatic gaze from the frozen mud he stood upon. Resting a brown and green eye upon a mound before him. Despair was something he had felt before, pathetic was a word that echoed in his ears again.

Healers just shouldn't have families... Of course, then no one could ground them, bring them back to reality, give them the care and nourishment they needed when the duties grew long and unending. Was fate so cruel as to throw this in his face again? He had already experienced a lifetime of grief, his heart could not take two.

Who was he to think he was all that? Who was he to think that he had any power at all to save the sick and the injured? Who was he to call himself a healer when now... a widower twice... to an illness... to a plague, a sickness that not only claimed his first love, but now his second, and as a final blow, his only begotten son.

I thought I could save her this time... She had grown sick and, knowing what it could mean to the pack, Hakan had her isolated. He had seen this sickness before, but the cure was a weed that grew in dryer climates. Someone had brought this plague from the desert, and Firebright was commonly on the borders. She must have caught it then. It had taken longer than he had originally thought it would, apparently the weed had grown scarce for the plague had ravaged many. He had been gone for too many moons.

And when he returned... the pack was gone and there, right where he had left her, her body embraced by their son. Alone... and cold. They had passed away in starving sickness sleep. His entire store of herbs was obviously exhausted. Reese and Lyra must have tried everything. It seems Reese might have caught it as well. Where were his daughters? Lyra and Kyra? Where where the images of their mother? He hadn't scented them on the trail Nardir took to the new lands, it was like they had been swept away without a trace.

Was he to remain alone? For the end of his days? Should he find a quiet place to rest and never get up again? Where were his daughters?

He felt numb to a world that seemed dead set against him, from the start. He could not take his eyes away from the very herbs he had spent this many moons to gather only to be too late. He laid them upon this tomb in front of him, with nothing to else to give.

He could never love again.

----------

Something was not right. Kyra was guiding her morose twin sister, trying to block the inward emotional roller coaster her sister was intent on having. The nardirian border smelled stale. Old, the other packs would soon consume it. The frozen wasteland hid all and though the smell was crisp she could scent a familiar individual. She nearly missed him with his mud colored pelt.

"Lyra! Sis! I think its Dad!" Kyra said urging her sister forward, onward. Kyra was fighting the emotional weight from both of them now. All was not right in this world.

Aylie

She was heading towards the lands of Nardir, not that she knew why. She had grown tired of what were to her no more than so many fragments of what used to be..or had it ever really been the way she remembered it? She thought it had been once but compared to the current version..it just didn't seem possible for one pack to change so much. And yet it had. Perhaps thats why she was heading there..to see how much further the pack would or perhaps had changed since her..departure. But instead a scent..a familiar one reached her and she froze. This one..was family..had gone missing before..before so many things and she was hesitant to approach at first but..she finally began making her way slowly, carefully, uncertainly towards him. But then as she approached she realized something else..Nardir's scent..was almost gone. And with that she picked up her pace. If the pack's scent had still been strong that would be one thing but with so little of it remaining...

"Hakan". She said her voice coming out as no more than a mere whisper as he came into view sitting outside but still near what had once been Nardirian borders. But more than that she couldn't think of to say..not with her seeing the mounds in front of him..mounds that marked the spot where someone was buried though just who was buried here she didn't know and didn't know if she wanted to know either.

((sorry it's so short and sucky but still don't have a complete handle on Aylie's timeline so..yeah))

(( boop... >> ))

Lyra's paws were heavy, her head hanging low. She smelled Nardir's stale, old borders and realized the pack must have left again. Had they been forced out? Probably not, the borders would have been re-marked with the victor's scents... Her ears went back in confusion and she glanced up at her sister's crimson tail swaying in front of her. She sighed and raised her head a little more, taking in their surroundings. It was familiar, but not. The flood that had swept the twins away must have changed the landscape. She frowned and sighed through her nose, her heart feeling like a dense stone in her chest. She smelled the wolf a few seconds after Kyra had, but she didn't want to believe her nose. Kyra stopped suddenly and Lyra almost ran into her.

"Lyra! Sis! I think its Dad!" Lyra looked up as Kyra started running forward, her frown deepening. She opened her maw to protest, to tell Kyra that there was no way they had found their father, when she saw the familiar brown wolf up ahead. Her mismatched eyes welled up and she lifted a paw, unsure whether to run or sit there and cry. The indecision lasted only a moment before she picked up her paws and followed her sister's forward momentum, running to their father and stopping a few feet short of him. She looked up at him with teary eyes and an incredulous look on her face. "D-dad..."
